The same day that American billionaire and investor Kirk Kerkorian offered a bid of .5 billion for Chrysler Corp., is the time that a automobile salesman in Southold, New York was also dusting off a framed print.

Chrysler dealer Dick Mullen stated last April 5 while smiling at an editorial cartoon from the 80s, “Time to hang this up again. It shows a automobile bursting from the ground beneath a gravestone marked “Chrysler: R.I.P.”

Mullen’s shop has stayed on Long Island’s northeast corner for 80 years and has witness to the rise and start of Chrysler through decades of miscues. Way back in the 80s the good old Mullen has loaned Chrysler some ,000 when it was nearing bankruptcy. And this day Chrysler’s future is again on the brink as its German parent DaimlerChrysler AG is opening all options for its sale. Despite the somewhat bleak future that Chrysler is covering today, Mullen remained calm and unafraid leavening the move gallous humor.

According to Mullen, 70 when he told income Chief Steve Landry at New York Auto Show last April 4, “It’s the fourth time I’m going out of business with you guys, I’m getting a tiny exhausted of it.” He also recommended for Chrysler to write a book based partly on his up-and-down ride and pass it out to future executives.

Landry stated as a way of confirming his conversation with Mullen, “Most of our dealers have faith, and they know that whatever happens, our brands and products are not going anywhere.” He also stated that he plans of meeting with as many as 50dealers this year to answer questions and to mend relationships.

Surveying the business of Mullen and the rest of his fellow automobile dealers on Long Island, it’s hard to miss the obvious fact that the Asian carmakers influence has also reached Long Island.

The UnionChrysler maker of Dodge truck parts and Dodge truck accessories has been a one of the ‘Big Three’ US maker alongside General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. way back in 1929. Unfortunately out of the ‘Big Three” it’s only GM that has successfully maintained its post.

The wrong decisions that have been plaguing Chrysler started back in 1970s when the Auburn Hills, Michigan-based maker try to near gas guzzlers as oil buying habits were changing. Chairman Lee Iacocca was healthy to refrain bankruptcy when it acquired .5 billion government-guaranteed loans. After a revival behind the compact K-car and the minivan, the US maker once again embarked in 1998 on a rocky billion union with Daimler, the maker of Mercedes-Benz.

The union only plunged Chrysler to graver financial crises that went on for more years than anyone can remember. Chrysler has obtained a .5 billion loss which prompted its German parent to investigate a sale. It was also then that Chrysler has surrendered the No.3 slot in the US market share to Toyota Motor Corp. Jeeps, Dodge trucks, and minivans have accounted for 70 percent of Chrysler’s income at the time when gasoline cost almost a congius in the US.

The Struggle of Chrysler DealershipsMullen for his long years of selling Chrysler products have weathered out very storm. He and his dad apiece purchased ,000 of Chrysler’s debentures in 1980 that earns them 11 percent interest per year interest. It was also their Chrysler dealership that was the first to sell Jeep in the US after the company purchased American Motors in 1987. Mullen has met Iacocca twice and later he was invited along a handful of dealers at a lunch at New York’s Waldorf Astoria hotel.

The main purpose of technologist for purchasing Chrysler is to acquire mass-market American foothold. Unfortunately instead of the acquire it is anticipating it has found itself struggling because of price discounts and union retiree costs that add ,300 to the price of apiece car. And this day with oil prices surging high some investors see the future of Chrysler as becoming bleaker than before.

According to Tim Gilbert, who helps manage billion in assets including DaimlerChrysler bonds at principal Global Investors in Des Moines, Iowa, “When the product cycle turned, the unsightly really outweighed the good.” He also stated that he firm is adding more bonds of the Stuttgart Germany-based carmaker because it should be more stable if it sells Chrysler.

DaimlerChrysler shares on the New York Stock Exchange have jumped 25 percent to .69 since the company has announced last February 14 of its plans of getting rid of its money-losing arm Chrysler.

Overproduction is the ProblemMullen states that Eaton was smart to sell when Chrysler was riding high. But he was less happy last year, when Chrysler’s production outstripped demand. Mullen and the other dealers were left with unwanted vehicles. This has provided Mullen with the intent for his book which he has given the theme: ‘Overproduction causes problems.’

Landry also stated that he is aware that dealers were upset and that is why he’s meeting with many of them this year. The most perplexing thing that Mullen found on the potential understanding is that Chrysler automobiles have never been better. As a matter of fact the Crossfire sports automobile shares 40 percent of its parts with Mercedes including the engine. The Chrysler 300 on the other hand makes use of the same axles and transmission as the Mercedes E-Class sedan.

Chrysler is also narrowing the calibre gap with Toyota just last year the average new Chrysler had 12 percent more problems than a typical Toyota basing on the results found by researcher J.D. Power & Associates in Westlake Village, California. But despite such that average is much superior than the average industry gap of 15 percent and far superior than the 22 percent that Chrysler incurred in 2000.

Where Should You Purchase A Used BMW?

The used BMW marketplace in the United Says is growing rapidly since the previous few years, mainly because lots of BMW lovers have found the convenience of leasing new BMWs and then selecting new models after 2 or even 3 years. This trend has outstripped the older trend of buying a BMW with a 4 or 5 years auto finance. That’s a good reason why many pre-owned BMWs are hitting the market and as well , being snapped up by discerning buyers.

The phenomenon of the BMW rent has radically changed the character of the pre-owned automobile market by flooding it with reasonably priced luxury automobiles in excellent condition. Until ten years ago, a typical pre-owned BMW is more like a battered old rattletrap than a luxury car; it’s a completely different ball game these days, with most BMW dealers and as well , used automobile stores trying to find low mileage BMWs with an accident-free history.

Certified used (CPO) BMW program

The leading automobile company has set up a used BMW certification check-list to assist potential shoppers. So as to remember for this certificate, all pre-owned BMWs has to match the criteria ordered out in the checklist. In addition to that, a pre-owned BMW which makes the CPO checklist and as well , still is insured in the original warranty gets an extra 50,000 mile / 2 year warranty.

For example, any one who buys a 2007 used BMW X5 with state 25,000 miles on the odometer from an authorized dealer has approximately 4 years of the original warranty. If the automobile passes the CPO checklist you would get – Remaining original warranty mileage plus CPO extra mileage – 25,000 50,000 = 75,000 miles.

It’s doable to drive the certified pre-owned used BMW 75,000 miles but still be covered under the warranty plan. If you do not drive long distances regularly, you might also get a 6 year warranty on the car. This means you can benefit from a lot more years of driving your dream luxury car.

Best places to buy a pre-owned BMW car

In view of the today’s market situation, it is wise to buy BMW from an authorized BMW dealer. Other alternatives include well-known auction web sites and used automobile stores, though getting the automobile from an approved dealer helps you save a substantial amount of money with the extra 50,000 miles on the original warranty. When all’s stated and also done, an authorized BMW dealer will give great service as well as the after income support rather than going to a store or else auction site.

Question by centurion216: what used Subaru Imprezas are good?
My subaru lost a motor. i am thinking of getting another subaru. what years are good for used subarus. please cite specifics and your source. thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by I <3 my Suby.
I guess the ideal used Subaru is one that has been properly maintained. Or one that has 50 miles on it. You need more detail like how much are you looking to spend? As far as what years, really all N/A Subaru’s have had the same engine and tranny for abut the last 12 years. And the turbocharged models have really not changed either for a long time. So it just comes down to what you want. Whatever model you decide on, just make sure you see all scheduled maintenance. Some of the late 90′s Legacy’s and Impreza’s had head gasket issues but it’s not as bead as people make it out to be and Subaru was pretty good about taking care of the problem for people. It’s just too hard to make any kind of recommendation without knowing your budget.

The first thing I look for in a automobile is dependability. You can?t anticipate your automobile to outperform the competition in each category, but staying power is an important part of what defines a brand in this day and age. Staying power is something the Audi brand has proven it has over and over again, and when you achievement into your Westport used Audi dealer, you?ll comprehend what I?m speaking about. But the ideal way to find out how dependable an Audi model really is is to look for case studies and speak to people about their own experiences. Lucky for potential Audi drivers, the brand has just released a pair of success stories from Minnesota men who have been driving their Audis for more than 10 years. Both men logged a milestone only a few months ago: Don DeChambeau and Don Nygaard have reached 300,000 miles on their beloved Audi cars. If that isn?t staying power, I don?t know what is. These two men, in their 60s and 70s respectively, have been commuting in their Audis for more than 10 years, and they attribute part of their professional success to the dependability of the Audi. Weston used Audi drivers can certainly comprehend where they are coming from.

The story behind the acquisition of these automobiles is just like the story behind a lot of different Audi owners? purchases. Used Audi dealers have served many a great automobile for Audi enthusiasts worldwide. ?My neighbor was an Audi lover and took me for a few rides. He said, ?you really need to try one ? they are great in this Minnesota weather.? Being an engineer myself, I related to the performance aspect of the automobile and the quattro system; Audi is really a automobile for people who like to drive. In the Twin Cities, especially with the weather, the quattro is the way to go,? Nygaard said. The story points out that Audi automobiles are great under any driving conditions ? a feature that you won?t always find in a luxury car. But Audi has the dependability that drivers need in even the most perilous conditions, and the company has poured a lot of money into making sure their automobiles are some of the safest on the road. Weston used Audi drivers have driven their automobiles in plenty of different conditions, and it?s nice to know that with some Audi vehicles, you?ll be healthy to drop the top when the weather gets nicer.

For Westport used Audi drivers, the story of the two Minnesota Dons is a great example of why they?ve chosen to drive the automobiles that they drive. For anyone who has ever considered buying an electric car, we?re anticipating to see a great electric coming out of the Audi camp modeled after the A3 e-tron concept model, a automobile that uses a water-cooling system in the engine. Weston used Audi drivers are more than happy to switch to the electric driving standard that the rest of the industry will be adopting shortly.

John Delorean is now ideal remembered for his unsuccessful gull-winged stainless steel vehicle that became a time-travel device in the highly successful “Back to the Future” series of films. He is also associated with shady financial dealings and illegal narcotics operations. A symbol of the 1980s excess, the recently departed Delorean’s legacy seems anything but glorious. When one reflects on Delorean, they likely remember footage of him attempting to raise funds for his imperfectness auto company by trying to sell over twenty million dollars in illegal drugs.

A more carefully use at the automotive innovator, however, cements Delorean’s position as a true legend in the sports vehicle field. Without the Delorean touch, it is likely that sports vehicle production and history would have taken a different direction than it has.

It was Delorean, who in 1964, helped create the muscle vehicle movement in the United Says when he decided the exhausted Pontiac Tempest could be revived via the insertion of a huge V8 engine. The resultant GTO became, and remains, one of the most beloved muscle vehicles in history. The GTO, or “goat” as sports vehicle enthusiasts often term it, became a hot-seller for Pontiac and set off a chain of events that led to the muscle vehicle era in the United States.

Delorean was rewarded for his innovative thinking by promotions into the highest ranks of American vehicle executives. Despite his success in the industry, he eventually opted to go his own way, leaving the U.S. automakers behind and hoping to subsequently compete with them.

Though Delorean’s efforts in Detroit created the muscle vehicle era of high-performance, big-engine sports sedans, his true desire was to take his automotive notions even further. He left Detroit and started his own manufacturing efforts in Northern Ireland, aspiring to build a company that would compete with Detroit’s huge three. The Delorean Motor Company produced the DMC-12, a brushed stainless steel sports vehicle with a futuristic look and trademark flip-up doors. It was never a major seller and less than 9,000 of the famed Delorean DMC-12s ever hit the streets. Nonetheless, experts credit the “Back to the Future” vehicle as a design inspiration for many makes and models to follow from other manufacturers.

Some have compared Delorean’s story with DMC to that of Tucker automobiles. Both were headed by strong individuals with new ideas, both met significant resistance from existing manufacturers, and both introduced aesthetic and mechanical refinements that would later be adopted in the production of future automobiles.

Delorean’s business success, including hotel investments and NFL football franchise ownership, was remarkable. His start from grace, however, was even more amazing. Accusations of financial wrongdoings, allegations of cocaine trafficking, and bankruptcy followed and combined to decimate the Delorean empire.

Delorean announced in 1999 that he hoped to re-enter the sports vehicle industry and hinted that he had plans to produce a fast sports vehicle prefabricated primarily of plastic that would cost less than ,000 retail. Considering his success three decades early with the GTO, Delorean’s declaration was met with a great deal of interest. He seemed poised for a comeback. His dream of a readily accessible sports vehicle designed to fit any budget, however, was never realized. Delorean died in 2004.

It might be simple to look at the Delorean story and see only greed, excess and subsequent failure. A closer look at the man who built the DMC-12, however, reveals one of the sports vehicle industry’s biggest influences and a man whose legacy should include consideration of his remarkable accomplishments alongside his very public failings.

REVIEWS:

Reviews for The Devil And Billy Markham
“In the role of the hell-bound country singer Billy Markham, person Jonah Weston convinced me that if he ended up in a seedy dive with Markham, the two would swap stories, ingest bourbon in fountain soda-sized quantities, and Markham would state Weston was an “alright son-of-a-bitch”—that is to say, he’s good.”
- Portland Mercury

“Shel Silverstein’s epic poem ‘The Devil And Billy Markham’ is currently recounted at the Curious Comedy Theatre. When person Jonah Weston comes onto the stage dressed like a regular guy and begins the remarkable tale of a man who bets with the devil, the feeling is that one of those great tavern storytellers around whom everyone naturally gathers just stepped into the room for a drink.
Director Jamie Rea and performer Weston deserve credit for understanding the kind of art that people still need — stories of life and love, and heaven and hell — presented in a way that is funny and whimsical and that people can relate to. And they deserve applause for doing it in a way that uses all the craft and artifice of theater, and making it look easy.”

Reviews for The Devil And Billy Markham
“Weston’s pleasure in reciting Silverstein’s humorously witty and sometimes playfully raunchy poetry is apparent. Weston gives apiece character a physical reality as well as a distinct vocal quality. Whether kneeling on the floor as Billy throwing die in a fixed game of craps, writhing on a stool to capture Billy’s anguish while roasting on a spit in hell, or strutting around the stage as the cocky Devil tossing off orders to inadequate henchmen, Weston gives a concrete sense of the physical lives of the story’s characters.
Throughout the piece Weston subtly varies vocal tone and pitch to accommodate the mood and intensity of the action but also takes advantage of theatrical elements like lighting to reinforce the shifts in atmosphere. Weston is an healthy entertainer, who knows how to engage and enchant his audiences. ”
-Richard Wattneberg- The Oregonian (Revival Review)

AUDIENCE RESPONSES:

“If you missed this show the first time around you get another chance to witness greatness. Jonah Weston is mythologic as he performs this adult Shel Silverstein story.”-Kay Olsen

I have now seen it TWICE in one weekend.
Get out to the show, people. This is what it’s all about. Performer, words, and audience. Jonah is wonderful. -Bruce A. Hostetler

I want to reflexion the praise leveled at Jonah’s performance. It’s a unsaved fine rendition of one of Shel Silverstein’ s greatest works. He had us falling out of our chairs laughing and riveted when we could find the self restraint to shut up and listen to all that fine prose. Everyone who likes a gritty, bawdy turn of phrase should come to see this. Don’t bring the kids. -Lee Newberry

I am very happy to see the large outpouring of acclaim for Jonah Weston’s performance in The Devil and Billy Markham. He was great and I think Bruce Hostetler stated exactly what was so great about it: performer, words and audience. -Lawrence Howard

Saw a great show! Jonah Weston’s tour-de-force “The Devil and Billy Markham”, Sweeeeeet. -Jan Powell

RUN. I am flabbergasted. Astounding performance by Jonah Weston. His work took my breath away. Several times. Very funny AND with so many rip your brain out layers. Might Portland flock! Run! Drop everything and run to The Devil and Billy Markham. Jonah Weston left me agog, agape and apoplectic with his performance of Shel Silverstein’s work. Brilliant comedic prose on the duality that exists within us all. -Nicole Lane

Great Work by Jonah Weston! Mesmerizing!-Cecily Overman

I just saw The Devil and Billy Markham and took my parents! They loved it! Fun for the whole family! -Bobby Bermea

Saw Jonah Weston in “The Devil and Billy Markham” last night at Curious Comedy Theatre. Great one man show. It was delightful. Go see it!
