If you get them without a turbo, they are usually owned by normal driving people. Just look for one that is in good shape and has the records. You may also want to look at the legacy, as it usually attracts a more mature buyer, and has a little more room, but the impreza is a very nice car. I had to sell mine when I had kids though, as there just wasnt enough room for a baby seat in the back without having the seats set so forward that it was uncomfortable. Subaru will work after these abuses, but will not work like new. The ones that are not abused, work like new well into 200k+ miles. I would look for 2.2l to be sure its good, but most 2.5l if maintained properly, will be good as well.
